3-day districts tour program
With the 3-day tour, guests will meet two different habitats, namely the rainforest on the Maratakka River and the Bigi Pan area which consists of 68,000 hectares of mangrove and swamp area. The Maratakka River is a tributary of the Nickerie River near the Wageningen rice village.
Prior to visiting the Maratakka River and Bigi Pan, you will experience the district excursion tour starting in Saramacca
Day 1: 7am Departure from Paramaribo towards Saramacca for a visit to the monument of Dutch settlers (farmers) in the main town of Groningen. After having a snack and a drink we go to Coronie where you can witness architecture out of the slavery, see very tall coconut trees, and the possibility of visiting a beekeeper who tells us about the bee’s cultivation. Then head towards Nickerie through the rice fields and a stop at the airport for viewing the agricultural planes.
After lunch in Wageningen we spend an hour on the Maratakka River towards Camp Maratakka. In Camp Maratakka, we will be able to visit the Indian village Cupido. After visiting Cupido you can enjoy a great swim in the Maratakka River. After dinner, relax on the pier with a campfire while preparing the hammocks for a good night rest.
Day 2: after breakfast, an exciting forest walk is on schedule for witnessing all sorts of amazing trees. After lunch we go back to Wageningen, where we drive by the Nickerie rice fields to Nw Nickerie for the boat trip to Bigi Pan. There is a tour through the swamp area to spot birds such as the Red Ibes and the Flamingo.
Day 3: after lunch, depart for Nw Nickerie. After visiting Zeedijk we leave for Paramaribo. Arrival 19:00.
All food and drinks are provided, except for alcoholic beverages.
